The COVID-19 pandemic caused a myriad of changes in daily life for people across the globe, but one of the most significant changes lies in the way families are consuming food. From where they’re eating, who is cooking, and what is on the menu the food industry has changed since March.

As restaurants, schools, event venues and more all closed early in the pandemic, the way food was being packaged no longer worked to efficiently keep fresh product moving through the system. Food production plants filling bulk containers of food for commercial use were left to re-tool, find different packaging containers, and in some cases re-design their production lines to fill containers in smaller amounts.

This massive shift in consumption was further exacerbated by consumers who began buying larger amounts of food per trip to the store in order to reduce the overall numbers of visits. This shift back into the family kitchen for meal prep vs eating out is a trend that is expected to continue for some time. Concerns about the virus and recent shut downs have one again has more than 50% of Americans creating most of their meals at home.

For the food industry, this means a continued push to packaging food for consumer vs commercial consumption. Dynequip has a long history of helping the food industry innovate their production facilities to maximize production and efficiency.
