At Dynequip in St. Paul, custom conveying isn’t a buzzword—it’s the foundation of what we do. While we’re well known for bulk material handling systems in food, dairy, and industrial applications, some of our most rewarding projects are the ones that don’t fit neatly into a standard category.

Sometimes, custom means unconventional. Sometimes, it means fish.

Engineering Solutions for the Unexpected

Several years ago, we partnered with a Minnesota-based company focused on managing invasive common carp populations in lakes across the U.S. These fish contribute to poor water quality and the destruction of aquatic vegetation, creating significant environmental challenges.

Our initial collaboration involved designing a custom conveyor system that allowed for a near-touchless removal process. After carp were trapped, the conveyor gently and efficiently transported them from the water for removal—reducing manual handling and improving safety for volunteers.

But the innovation didn’t stop there.

Following the success of that system, we were asked to design and build a fully integrated net washing machine—complete with controls—to clean the large nets used in trapping operations. It was another example of how unconventional challenges often require equally unconventional engineering.

From Concept to Completion—All In-House

What makes projects like these successful isn’t just fabrication capability—it’s collaboration and design.

Every custom system begins with listening. We work directly with the customer to understand:

  • The environment the equipment will operate in
  • Safety requirements
  • Throughput goals
  • Space limitations
  • Cleaning and maintenance needs

From there, our in-house designer develops detailed drawings tailored specifically to the application. Because we create these drawings internally, we can move quickly from concept to refinement—making real-time adjustments as ideas evolve.

This collaborative design process ensures that what’s built isn’t just functional—it’s practical, efficient, and built to last.

Why “Unusual” Projects Matter

Unconventional applications push engineering teams to think differently. Designing a system for fish removal or a custom-built net washer isn’t something you’ll find in a catalog. It requires creativity, problem-solving, and a willingness to explore new approaches.

For us, these projects reinforce a simple truth:

If it needs to move—safely, efficiently, and reliably—we can design a system to do it.

Custom Means Partnership

Whether it’s a bulk bag unloader for food production or a specialized conveyor for environmental management, our approach remains the same:

  • Collaborate closely
  • Design thoughtfully
  • Engineer precisely
  • Build with quality

Outside-the-box projects aren’t exceptions for us—they’re opportunities to demonstrate what’s possible when experience meets innovation.

Have a conveying challenge that doesn’t fit the mold? Let’s build it together.
